This week saw our talented Year 6 pupils stage their production of Roald Dahl’s “Matilda The Musical JR.” The musical is adapted from the full-length musical which was based on the book by Roald Dahl, and features a book by Dennis Kelly and music and lyrics by Tim Minchin. Year 6 truly delighted their audiences with 3 magnificent performances – their sheer delight in being on stage was clear for all to see!

Ably supported by our Year 5 pupils who made up the chorus, the Year 6 cast told the story of Matilda, a little girl with astonishing wit, intelligence and psychokinetic powers, who lives with cruel parents who find her to be a nuisance, a lousy little worm, and a bore. When Matilda enters her first term at school, she captures the attention of Miss Honey, a kind teacher, and the two form a wonderful friendship. Unfortunately, the school is ruled by a tempestuous and mean headmistress named Miss Trunchbull, who hates children and delivers cruel and unjust punishments to all her charges. Matilda is determined to change her story, but will her cleverness and courage be enough to withstand the reign of Miss Trunchbull?

Our Head of Music and Drama, Mrs Dobson, said “We had such a fantastic time preparing for our production of “Matilda” and I couldn’t be prouder of our young performers for their extraordinary achievement. I was delighted that the wonderful work ethic and sense of fun displayed in rehearsals translated onto the stage. I am so grateful to everyone involved, especially the cast, for a truly unforgettable experience. What a cast and what a performance!”
